The dot SE country-code top-level domain was set up in 1986 and delegated to Sweden. During the first years after its establishment, the registration process was very restrictive, so a very small number of domains were secured. Individuals could purchase no more than one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was compulsory, i.e. merely Swedish individuals, companies and organizations were able to order a dot SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was loosened a lot and, as a consequence, the number of .SE domains has been increasing each year.

At this time, anyone can register a .SE domain, which gives you the opportunity to contact the Swedish online community even if you do not have a local presence.
